
Silent Valley National Park is located in the Nilgiri Hills in Palakkad district of Kerala. This valley occupies almost 90 sq kms.
The park is also known for the rare and unique herbs and plants that grow here, as well as the wildlife found in the Silent Valley, which include elephants, tigers, leopards, wild boar, sambhar, gaur and the endangered lion-tailed macaque. There are also a number of snake.
How to reach:
Its a 4 hour journey from Pallakad city. You can get a bus to Mannarkkad from pallakad city, get down at mannarkkad and get a bus which goes to Mukkali, its a 40km journey. From Mukkali you have to get the permission from wildlife department. You can reach Silent valley only by local jeeps. They'll charge Rs.600 per trip. The forest department provides guides. Its a 20km journey by jeep through the muddy and rocky roads. You'll find thick forest during the journey. Exciting treks are also organised by the authorities but prior permission needs to be taken from the forest department.
