Alleppy also called as Alappuzha in malayalam is an important district of kerala of southern India. Alleppy is a beautiful town with picturesque backwaters, beaches and house boats. Alleppey is the hub for backwater tourism in Kerala. Visitors can enjoy ride on House boats on backwaters which are available on hire on a daily basis as well as for longer duration. These house boats in general have 2-3 bed rooms and attached bath rooms most of the boats have the bedrooms fitted with airconditioners. Normally a trip includes kerala dishes. The district has a network of rivers,canals and backwaters. Manimala, Pampa and Achancovil are the major rivers, Vembanad Lake, Kayamkulam Lake are the major backwaters.
Places of interest:
1. Pathiramanal: This little island on the backwaters is a favourite haunt of hundred of rare migratory birds from different parts of the world. The island lies between Thaneermukkom and Kumarakom, and is accessable only by boat.
2.Champakulam : The water logged village is also the place of oldest angadi (market) known as Kalloorkkadu angadi. The St. Mary Forane Church built in 427 A D is another major attraction famous for its beautiful mural paintings for both tourists and believers. In Champakulam you can see Nadubhagum and Champakulam snake boats which take part in the annual snake boat races.
3. Krishnapuram Palace:This palace museum houses antique sculptures, paintings and bronzes.
4. Alappuzha BeachThis is one of the most popular picnic spots in Alappuzha.Entertainment facilities at the Vijaya Beach Park add to the attractions of the beach.
5. Sea View park – The park offers boating facilities and a swimming pool.
